I talk online on social media a lot about skepticism and atheism.

I sometimes recieve complaints from people about how I should stop talking about it, and how offensive it is.

The thing is. Skepticism is important for social justice, anyone defrauding people with pseudoscience and snake oil, sales and marketing does not deserve any respect.

This goes double for religion. Religion is one of the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on humankind. As such it deserves no respect at all, much less the exceptional free pass that religions are given by society.

What people seem to fail to realise is that lack of respect for a religion is not the same as lack of respect for an individual.

The biggest problem is that there are people who take the fraud that is religion, and build their entire identities using the religious fraud as a foundation.

These are the people that take personal offence when religion is questioned. These are the people that stone non-believers to death, or fight bitter legal battles to keep public shows of religion as oppressive and one sided as possible. These are the ones who are not ready to leave the matrix, the ones you will fight you if you buck the system. Those who's thoughts are not their own.

When you silence speach about what is going on, when you stop people speaking out about the attrocities religions are perpetrating, when you allow moderates to forgive and feed the extremists. You speak up clearly, you tell the world that you don't want the extremists fought. You support the fraud and bigotry.

I do not, and I will not. If people find that so offensive, then I ask that they question their support for the kind of bigotry. And if they do, then I would ask that they do me a favour and vanish. I cannot countenance the maintainence of friendships with people who value the support of such grievious fraud and abuse of others above humanity and society.

Current Mood: pensivepensive
Current Music: Star Wars Marathon!!
At one time, there was no cash, there was only social currency, social capital. These days social currency and social capital is being devalued, and transformed into a cash currency only market. The idea of gaining social captial is basically meaningless. The professions of caring for others or of the environment, of any who cannot speak for themselves, has been devalued to the point of being meaningless.

Unless societal value is once again given value in society, humanity is going to remain unvalued, and a growing portion of society will continue and continue to escalate.

There is no value in human life, no liability in human suffering.

Without this there is no motivation for western society to care for the poor, the under-supported. The idea of 'charity' being the only thing needed to support the suffering, relegated to the blue rince church set.

And to have religions handling social service work is perhaps the most unethical, judgemental and abusive thing that can be done to the needy.

Since there is no financial value placed on social capital, the only value placed on it is as advertising capital. Corporations move to make token charitable efforts to paint their name in a positive light. These efforts are realistically only token and lack the power to make the sweeping changes society needs to see.

What food traditionally considered to be a delicacy are you quite sure you can live without ever trying? Similarly, what food or drink have you always wanted to try but haven't had the chance to yet?

Could do without fertilised duck eggs, cockroaches, crickets (choclate coated or otherwise) most insects actually - not a fan of the idea of snails, mostly due to the descriptions I have heard from those who have tried it, garlicy rubber bands is not my idea of a good meal. Can live without frogs legs too. And I don't like muscles and oysters for the most part - cept smoked.

Really want to try bear, curious about moose.

You're having guests for the weekend -- what one local restaurant is at the top of the list for your visitors, and what dishes will you be recommending? (Links to the restaurant's website always welcome, in case readers are ever in your area!)

As a big fan of sushi - my first recomendation would be Sapporos

very good value and very enjoyable food. relaxing meal easy to chat and great place to try new things.

For those without budget restrictions, Matsu is even better food and wonderful atmosphere - but substantially more expensive.

What is your favorite vacation spot in the world and why do you love it so much -- is it the activities, the people, the sheer beauty, etc? Would you live there full time if you could, or do you prefer to keep it as a special treat?

My favorite vacation spot in the world is the spot I most want to work my carreer on too. The GBR, I love diving, love teaching, add the two together and what have you got?
that's right. But before I go I would have to whip myself back into shape, and I could do that by earning the money out of my own hide I am sure ..... it's been a long time .... I used to work there .....

So, I'm older, my feet feel like ice cubes, but that is my own fault. My back feels like molten lead, I am tired, my eyes scratchy. I feel old.

I think I should not start the day with a rum, but I think I will. And I think that, today of all days, if anyone has anything to say about this, they can kiss my hairy flabby ass!

So here I am, trying to journal about me.

It's the end of classroom part of my diploma, I have a couple of weeks break before placement.

I'm really burned out, and trying to recover. I am trying everything I know how to do. but every time I turn around there is more demands.

I barely make it out of the morning without feeling exhausted.

Today is Earth Day -- what steps do you take in your life to help protect the planet? What change do you wish more people would make?

I live trying to minimise my footprint on the earth all the time. I really can't make an extra impact by changing anything for a day.

Do you still write letters to friends or family? (Actual written letters, not emails.) Does a handwritten letter mean more to you when you receive one, or do you find yourself wishing they'd typed it out so it was more legible?

I have neverbeen much of a letter writter. Ever since I was a child forced to write letters to family members I have never met.

Emails are far more practical and fast. My handwriting is abominable on top of that, only the most practiced can read it. My father used to force me to write lines in my only time off from school to practice, but I was never going to be able to improve.

I don't communicate much with family that is not with me here, But that is a double edged thing, I have cut off contact with my father, my mother makes about the same amount of effort to contact me as I do her, as does my sister. They are apparently just as happy to have me out of their lives as I am to be living my life here.

Which television show doesn't (or didn't) get the love it deserves? Why do you think more people should know and love it as you do?

Firefly - easy answer - it was canned because the network claimed it didn't have the ratings, they couldn't have been more wrong - and fans were crushed.
